The Mini Time Machine Museum of Miniatures offers several Miniature Makers Classes each year. These classes range, in skill level, from beginner to advanced. We welcome everyone to get involved with the world of miniatures and meet new friends through one of our classes! Miniature Makers Classes are created for teens and adults. Getting Started with Miniatures Spring 2013
Date: Wednesday, April 10, 2013

Class Description: This Miniature Makers Class for beginners is back by popular demand! If you feel that a whole dollhouse would be too intimidating to start out with, here’s a quick and easy way to get involved with the wonderful world of miniatures…Spend the day creating a roombox suitable for a bookcase shelf. Make a living room, dining room, bedroom or even a kitchen! The room will have a floor, three wall-papered walls and a window. You will choose the type of room and color palette and we’ll construct a room that you can have fun furnishing and accessorizing. Once you’ve completed one, we can almost guarantee you’ll want to make another!
*Does not include materials. A list of materials estimated at $25-$30 will be sent to registrants one week prior to the class. Must be 15 years of age or older to attend. This class is limited to 8 people- don’t delay!
Instructor Biography: Lani has been with The Mini Time Machine Museum of Miniatures for three years. She began as a volunteer and has completed docent-training. Currently she works part-time at the front desk as Museum Services Assistant. Lani began making and collecting miniatures 30 years ago and has been active in the Southern Arizona Miniature Society ever since (formerly TMS). She now has a modest collection of roomboxes- some created in workshops with renowned miniature artists and dollhouses- each unique and ranging in style. She has furnished all the housed with furniture assembled predominately from kits. She’ll share many of the tips and techniques that she has learned with the class.

Bookends with Miniature Scenes Spring 2013

Title: Bookends with Miniature Scenes
Dates: Thursday, March 14, 2013, 1pm-3:30pm

Class Description: Bookends showcasing a miniature scene can be a perfect gift. It takes very little time to assemble a few special pieces that are meaningful to a friend or family member. With just a little wallpaper, paint, flooring, one or two furniture pieces, and a few accessories, you can have a delightful diorama that in addition to being clever is also useful. Participants will receive a pair of bookends each 8 ½” X 6 ½” x 6 ½”. In class each person will finish one bookend creating a miniature scene. Possible themes: holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, graduation, favorite team, homage to a loved one, author, artist, or musician. Of course you can always finish the bookend or add to it later.
Instructor Biography: Carol Deters has a life-long love of miniatures. As a child she spent hours rearranging tiny furniture in stacked orange crates. Later she made several play houses in various scales for her children, and then for grandchildren. She continues to create dollhouses and vignettes, and has a wonderful collection of minis from all the Spanish speaking countries she’s visited: Spain, Mexico, Costa Rica, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Ecuador. Carol’s miniatures have been featured in “Dollhouse Miniatures,” “Miniature Collector,” and “The Heart of Miniatures” magazines.
Minimum and Maximum enrollment: 4/8
Tools/Materials: Bookends and an assortment of art materials will be provided. Bring along any special items you want to use: wrapping paper for the wall, scrapbooking paper, flooring (we will have a selection in class), any furniture and accessories.

Two Guys from Texas Come to Tucson, Arizona to Teach: My Daughter’s Kitchen- SOLD OUT
Title: My Daughter’s Kitchen
Dates: March 7, 8 and 9, 2012, 9am to 4pm each day
Instructor: The Guys from Texas, Larry Osborn and Jon Fish
Class Fee: $950 – Open to Expert level only.
Registration Deadline: February 20, 2012. Maximum registration is 5 people.
Class Description:
The class will cover a multitude of finishing techniques, wood finishes, faux glazing for age, Venice plaster, grouting, painting with special glazes for color depth & proper spraying habits. Students will learn how to make granite counter tops, a soapstone sink & put the finishing touches on the stove. There will be a short introductory class in LED’s and how to use them. Wiring & lighting will be supplied with the box but the transformer is not included.
Instructor Biography: Larry Osborn and Jon Fish have been involved in miniatures since 1983. At the start making miniatures was an occasional hobby, until they discovered a Paliser Brothers Victorian pattern book in a bookstore and built a house from scratch. Next they built a couple of more structures; and The Guys from Texas was born. Larry and Jon proceeded to build a solid reputation as professional miniaturists & teachers. The Guys from Texas participate in numerous miniature shows including the Chicago International, Philadelphia Miniaturia, Good Sam Showcase of Miniatures and Dallas Showcase of Miniatures. Larry and Jon are artists by training. Between the two of them they have earned BFAs from Kansas City Art Institute and Washington State, in sculpture and an MFA from the University of Kansas. Post graduate studies include studying with Joseph Albers and Hans Hoffman, as well as Yale and the University of Colorado.
